Ambiance – 5/5 | Food – 3/5 | Service – 3/5
Anything Goan attracts me to the core. Be it travel or Goan Food. When I heard of 84 Anjuna Shack, I made up my mind to visit it after they settle down a little. So after waiting for few weeks, I finally reached.
The decor is made up similar to a Goan beach shack. I was welcomed by a ‘Hi Bro’.. and I took back few steps. I wasn’t addressed like this ever before by a wait staff in any restaurant. Well ignoring we took a seat in one of the cozy corner.
As I admired the interiors, we were presented the menu to order. Though, I was expecting a lot of Goan food, they have very limited options. All they have is Goan wings, Goan Fish curry & Bebinca. However, they have a host of other European dishes. Thoroughly disappointed, I opted to order the Goan Wings for the appetizers. For the mains, we ordered for a Pasta & Chicken A La King.
The place has a mix of formal & informal seating. They have few tables setup outside under the thatched roof for the smokers. They also have a rack of Goan themed apparels & accessories up for sale (a little over priced).
As we chatted on, the spicy wings were served and they looked delicious. On the first bite though, I felt the coating was awkward. Though the flavours outside were prominent, it wasn’t well done inside. The wings probably should have been thawed a little more before putting it on the plate. Anyways, when enquired, the wait staff informed, “That’s the Chef’s special bro”. I as like fine, may be I wasn’t made to order the same.
Moving ahead with our main course were Chicken Penne Alfredo Pasta. I must compliment the chef to make it just perfect. Creamy, yet not something you will spill off while eating. The portion size is adequate and totally filling.
The Chicken A La King was served with herbed rice. When enquired about the grilled vegetables, the waitstaff informed that it is served this way. I had to point him to the menu and get the grilled veggies served. The dish had over powering tangy flavour due to excess tomato
The place is managed by just one person who handles the service to billing. The place is moderately busy hence the service is also slow. It takes eternal time to get anything including a glass of water.
To give a second chance, I made a repeat visit a month later. My experience was almost similar. The owner loves Goan food and passionate to promote the food in Hyderabad.
Though delighted 84 Anjuna Shack still has a long journey to travel to avoid being in the ‘also ran’ category.
